Struggling Old Friends
Mabel and I frequently sat on this bench. Here we enjoyed our sandwiches and listened to the birds. Last year Mabel passed away - - - but I still come here - - - to remember – and to have a break from my tiny flat. Without Mabel, and without the benefit of her pension cheque, I am now very much dependant on Meals on Wheels. Please pass on my heartfelt gratitude to all who make this excellent service possible.
The twilight years. A time that, in an ideal world, should be spent surrounded by loved ones. A time that should be filled with reminiscences, delicious lunches and easy afternoons. A time that – in many people’s lives – is the first they’ve had to put their feet up, after a lifetime of work, stress and trying, against all odds, to be the best they can be.
